A Tale of Two Trucks...

This is our truck.

A few weeks ago, we were getting the kids ready to head to swimming lessons on a Saturday morning, and sent them out to get in the truck...

But the truck wasn't there...

So, we started the process of notifying the police that our truck had been stolen and phoned insurance to see what we needed to do with them etc...

A file was started and insurance set us up with a car rental for the time being, until we either found our truck or bought another vehicle...which was kind of a joke, cause our truck was kinda redneckish;-)

Anyways, this is what we got used to in the two weeks we were waiting for all that paperwork to be completed...

Not sure how we can follow that!!  It was so nice to drive, a 2012 Chevy Malibu, we were the first "real" drivers of it and we loved it so much.  It was sad to say goodbye...but one day...I can dream you know:-)

Anyways, we received a phone call asking if we had put gas in our truck at a gas station, to which we replied, "no, our truck has been reported stolen"...

They guy who stole the truck also stole $50 worth of gas...

Then got caught driving the truck just down the road from our house...

I am serious

He has 7 previous convictions already and now was adding at least 3-4 more from this theft.

So, now the truck had been found and had been towed to a yard where the police dusted for prints and looked for evidence that would help at the hearing that would be coming up...

And then we started the insurance process...

Now, we knew the truck wasn't worth a whole lot, it had high mileage and wasn't in the best shape...so we were really hoping that they wouldn't write it off.  There was no way we would be able to get a second vehicle for the amount of money we thought we would get from it...

BUT...

The guy who stole the truck, obviously didn't know what he was doing because when he popped the ignition, he cracked the steering column too.  Which is VERY expensive to replace...he also somehow ruined the CB antennae (see, I told you it was redneckish;-) and one of the front headlights was broken too.

So, insurance chose to settle with us...

This is the look of sadness on his face;-)

Like I said, we weren't expecting much and had thought that we would have to argue with them for a higher amount...but instead, we were pleasantly surprised to have them settle for $2300.  We had to pay the $300 deductible, so we got $2000...

We added the deductible to the court case, but I don't think we will see a dime of it...

And, my husband has some amazing friends who have great hookups with vehicles and we were able to get another truck, a 2000 Dodge Dakota, in MUCH better shape then the previous one, for the amount of the settlement!!

This is now what we are driving instead:-)

So, even though you sometimes feel like everything is going wrong and there is no way any good can come out of a situation, remember...sometimes the only way out is up!!

  1. This reminds me of an old car my we had a long time ago. It had some dents and other rough spots and wasn't really worth much. We loaned it to a family member and he parked it on his street overnight. A drunk cam along, hit it and smashed it up so bad that you couldn't even tell it had previously had body damage. The insurence company totaled it and gave us a generous check for way more than we ever could have sold it for!
