Garage Sales and Worms...what a day!!

We woke up early this morning, got everything set up and ready for the sale outside. We had a beautiful day and beautiful weather, not too hot, not too cold.

There seemed to be a steady flow of people through, though we really didn't sell much...it was still fun to get together and visit with the neighbours and each other.

We made about $50, and we have lots left over. I am just glad that it is all out of my house!! We got it all put away and will get rid of it later, it is neatly on the porch, for about a week.

After we were cleaned up we quickly ate some lunch and headed to the dump. Yup, that is right, the dump. I told Pete I know he doesn't see that place enough during the week, and I thought he would enjoy showing the kids where he works...

No, really, they were having a vermicomposting workshop. What is that? Well, it is compsting with worms...it is actually really cool.

We started with an empty bin and put in peat moss and shredded newspaper, then, in another bucket, we dumped 2 tbsps clacium carbonate (I think), a large shovel of composted dirt and a small shovel of coffee grounds.

Then we dumped that bucket into the bin and added enough water to make everything damp. Then the best part!! The worms, we ripped open the worm bag and left it in the bin and they will start working.

Now we can put in our fruits and veggies, some noodles, rice and coffee grounds and we will have a very richly composted dirt in a bit.

I am excited to try it out and see how it works.

That was my day, very exciting, I know...

  1. Not bad on your garage sale. That's $50 you didn't have before.

The composting thing sounds cool. I have a compost pile. I may need to try worms.

  2. Fascinating how each species contributes to the environment. We are designed to live in harmony and will all survive longer if we do.
