Cheerios Milestones Blog Tour!!

One of the perks of having children is watching them reach the milestones in their lives.

Crawling, walking, talking etc...all the regular stuff.  With 5 kids I have seen milestone after milestone and it never gets old.  I was just as excited when baby number 5 walked as I was when baby number 2 and 3 walked...it is awesome to watch as our kids grow and develop into little people.

We have had a number of milestones in our house lately, my 15 year old is working at his first job.  It is an amazing job and has amazing potential for him to pursue his dream of becoming a chef.

Faith has started preschool at a "typical" centre.  I am excited that she is doing so well there.

My 8 year old started grade 4 this year and she has changed so much.  She really matured over the summer and is excited about being a junior at school.

Our funny 5 year old is learning how to read.  That is a huge milestone, since she has always had speech development issues.

And the 12 year old, she has been a part of every sports team in junior high so far.  She has played both football and soccer and is trying out for volleyball next week.

My kids are all growing into amazing people.  We are truly blessed in our house.

The biggest milestone that I would like to share is one that my regular readers will already know about.  Faith is alive.  It was a milestone when she no longer needed the machine to breathe for her, it was a milestone when she no longer needed the feeding tube into her stomach, it was a milestone when she walked and talked for the first times.  She was expected to live her life in a wheelchair with no communication skills.  She was expected to have no memory and just a few weeks ago learned and can still say what an "s" says.

So, a milestone is an amazing thing to watch and they never get old.  Our kids will continue to reach milestone after milestone while they continue to grow...even into adulthood.  It is good to celebrate these times and share them with others.

It is like shining a light in a grey world:-)

Since milestones are so amazing and need to be celebrated, Cheerios is helping us celebrate with their Milestones Contest.  You could have your child featured on a special edition Cheerios Box and WIN $10,000 towards an RESP from TD Canada Trust!!

  9. My son is nine years old and just did something I thought he might never do - he read his first words. These were two and three letter words, but I cried with joy as we celebrated this HUGE milestone. This has been an extremely long process and we are far from being able to read books or even get the entire alphabet correct, but we are a step closer.

There are many things doctors and teachers have told me my child might never do. Sitting in a meeting a year ago, I was told by one specialist they did not believe my child was capable of learning past the kindergarten level he currently remains at. Well, the child who was unlikely to play sports participates in almost every one and is really good at it. He loves to sing and looks forward to his part in the yearly Christmas play at church. He also jumped up and down and celebrated with me after he completed his very first perfect spelling test on Friday.

I make a big deal of every milestone reached in my house, because they are each one I didn't know if we would ever have the opportunity to celebrate. His milestones may be severely delayed and somewhat different from the average child, but we are reaching them - slowly and one little step at a tiime.
